Demolishing the First City Hall
CITIZENS QUESTIONED…Why did we demolish the first City Hall?
The Original City Hall had mold, asbestos, termites, mildew etc and could not be remodeled in its present condition. A comment was made that “citizens would not notice its demise”. I disagreed.
Here's an ABC 13 article concerning the demolition of the original City Hall which was located next to Ciscos, across from the Old Kleins Feed Store (now a wonderful antique coop). Here is the same article with noted highlights.
Tomball does not have a historical archive. What better place to recreate a replica of this small city hall and use it to display and educate visitors on the history of Tomball?
The average age in the city limits is 36. As time goes on, we could lose important Tomball facts and documents like…New residents and children can learn our name was originally Peck, Texas; Tomball is in the Guiness World Book for free gas; why is our city medallion showing cattle, oil derrick, train; and many more interesting facts and pictures just like these.
Our library is working on a Historical Book of Tomball; however, there are books published about Tomball. Welcome to Tomball, Leslie Upchurch 1976; Tomball Centennial, 1907-2007; and A Tribute to Tomball: A Pictoral History of the Tomball Area published in 1982. These are great books on Tomball but I do believe it’s time for an update.
In closing, I would really welcome public comments and very interested in your thoughts on the topic of perserving Tomball’s history and the best way to pass it on to younger generations.
